"You see, people who neglect to make the right choices to release and maximize their talent continually underperform. Their talent allows them to stand out, but their wrong choices make them sit down...THeir talent gies them opportunity, but their wrong choices shut the door. Talent is a given, but you must earn success."

Capo Summer Camp
Click on the link above or on the Camps tab for details.

We have had quite a full summer thus far!

On June 24, ten Capo senior wrestlers graduated high school: Shaun Felix-Tuu, Spencer Igram, Spencer Charles, Mike Maierhofer, Kevin Chang, Irving Nunez, Marlon Lopez, Matt Frantz, Zach Brown, and Amir Nahangi. Congratulations to these fine young men for completing their studies and obtaining their diplomas. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors, whether it be in the armed services (Zach Brown), or at Linfield college on a football scholarship (Mike Maierhofer). Spencer Charles and Spencer Igram will also be coaching for the Cougars next season!

For the rest of the team, it is on to summer training. Spring has concluded with Russell Fitzpatrick, Jason Hou, Zane and Kyle Coley, Shane Johnston, Marc Cordi, Christian Hauser, Michael Logan and Ryan Tye all earning their "Platform Ready" T-shirts. Christian Hauser wrestled 60 matches in the spring, while Shane Johnston wrestled 42. That has to be some sort of record. Good job, fellas! That hard work will pay off in the winter.

Now is the time that many individual Cougars are standing out by their work ethic. Several members of the team have been working hard in the weightroom, on the track, and on the mat in various camps and training sessions. From June 28-July 2, four Capo wrestlers attended the "Camp of Champs" in Thousand Oaks, CA: Mark Herrera, Shane Johnston, Dylan Beller, and Matt Grovom. The boys had a great time, bonded as a team, learned a ton, and competed in 20+ matches. Teams from Arizona (Cibola, for instance, one of the top 3 teams in the state), Utah, Nevada, and Idaho (Columbia, Idaho state champions, had 2 complete squads in attendance) were there in addition to many teams from California (CIF champions Atascadero brought 20+ guys, for instance). Mark Herrera finished 6th in the individual tournament after a grueling 21 matches. Good job! The camp featured some of the nation's best wrestlers and coaches as clinicians: NCAA finalist Mark Churella (U. of Michigan), World Team member JD Bergman, 2x NCAA champion Teyon Ware (U. of Oklahoma), and 2x NCAA champion Chris Pendleton (Oklahoma State). It doesn't get any better than that! The guys even had the chance to have a little fun with the clinicians. In the picture to the right, one of the clinicians--World Team member JD Bergman--does his best Ahhhnold Swarzenegger impression by push-pressing Mark Herrera. In the other picture, Shane, Mark, Matt, and Dylan pose with 2x NCAA finalist Chris Pendleton, who was also a clinician there.

In addition to the Camp of Champs, many Capo wrestlers are putting in the time in the weightroom and wrestling room at the Capo Big Kat camp. Coming soon are trips to the Cal State Fullerton Camp and the Ohio State Camp. This is how wrestlers improve and meet their winter goals. This is no time for video games!
