"You see, people who neglect to make the right choices to release and maximize their talent continually underperform. Theri talent allows them to stand out, but their wrong choices make them sit down...THeir talent gies them opportunity, but their wrong choices shut the door. Talent is a given, but you must earn success."

Rich Bordner

Coach Bordner
Rich Bordner is in his first year as Capistrano Valley head coach.  He wrestled in high school at Jefferson City High School, in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he qualified for state three times, placing third his senior year.  From there, he attended Ohio State University, wrestling for five years, lettering twice.  While at Ohio State, he also earned a Batchelor's degree in English and Philosophy, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2002.  Upon graduation, he served as freshman wrestling coach for one year at Dublin Coffman High School in Dublin, Ohio.  The last three years he has coached as an assistant for Dominguez High School in Compton, California.

He teaches English at Capistrano Valley High School, and is obtaining a Master's degree in Philosophy from Biola University.  Married August 8, 2009, he lives with his wife, Ezichi, in La Habra.

Joe ZellerJoe Zeller

Just who Joe Zeller is and where he comes from remain somewhat of a mystery. Rumored to have medaled in the 1620 Olympics, we now believe he may have been injured while trying out for the Olympic team a little more recently. Rumors again claim that Joe has taught and coached wrestling at Capo Valley at least since WWII. While we are aware that he did indeed coach several extremely successful seasons at Capo Valley, exact details elude us. What we do know is that he seems to know and be loved by every wrestling coach in Orange County, as well as being loved and loving every wrestler on the Capo Valley team. While Joe sometimes seems eccentric, no doubt due to old age and perhaps hitting the mat too hard once or twice, his pithy sayings such as, “That dog will hunt!” and, “All you have to do is do it” show that Coach Zeller is wise to the core. We are grateful to have Joe continue to raise successful wrestlers and provide fodder for our jokes.

Brian CanfieldCanfield

Coach Canfield has been coaching at Capistrano Valley High School since 1999. Prior to that, he was a varsity wrestler from 1994-1997, where he was an individual league champion two times, and, along with his team, enjoyed the league championship four times! Coach Canfield still enjoys competing in open wrestling competitions.

Andrew DonaldsonAndrew Donals

Coach Donaldson is starting his sixth year coaching at Capo Valley. When he wrestled here as a student, he was a CIF finalist (1999), the 1999 South Coast League Champion, and in 2000 took fifth place as the California Junior State Champion. In addition, Coach Donaldson is a member of the Capistrano Valley High School Hall of Fame.
